The Loft Club are based in Exeter but their music is spreading out from the South West thanks to internet sharing. Having listened to 'Heart’s Desire' I’m not surprised that they have a growing fan base. With influences that include Buffalo Springfield, Fleetwood Mac, tThe Byrds, Ryan Adams, the Beatles and Noel Gallagher they create a truly transatlantic kind of music that explores that sixties pop feel at its best. This is a new band with a vintage sound that they have made their own.
Band members are Daniel Schamroth, Jamie Whyte, Kieran Chalmers, Amy O’Loughlin and Dan Wright.
The title track 'Heart’s Desire' has a Beatles and Oasis sound in the vocals. I could imagine the Byrds with Roger McGuinn covering the next track 'Flicker'. 'I’m Just a Man' brings to mind the Yardbirds and Manfred Mann in their heyday. 'Sticks and Stones' opens with a folky feel and builds to an upbeat country song. Niklas Ibach has remixed the title song for the closing track, giving it a spacey, psychedelic feel.
It’s great to discover a young band who are taking influences from the best of sixties pop and making it their own with their distinctive song writing. Their music is catchy and infectious. I was soon singing along. I’d love to see them live. I’ve fallen for 'Heart’s Desire'.
