The 'Divorced' Conformists have not changed their stance. They are still a combo much in the vein of Bogshed or The Ex, and dwell in late 1980's punk ethics. Edgy and four-cornered square, the Conformists couldn't, however, be counted as a math rock act. More precise in tone,'Divorce', their second album for Aagoo, marks a change away from one-dimensional emo towards a brighter spectrum.
Whether they are more elaborate or just plain zany, it is up to the listener to decide. The band spews out heartfelt cries and on issues of worry and dry funky escapism in one bumpy flow. There is a wonderful amount of white noise on the penultimate track 'Meow', which vaporizes just before 'Hail Spraytan'changes the mood and mode, which is always a good sign. After repeated listens, I'm still undecided, yet increasingly impartial.
