Deadsmoke’s debut record is only a five track album, but it's sadly thirty minutes of my life that I won't get back. I'm quite open minded but, please, when a label calls itself Heavy Psych Sounds I expect some of that. This isn't, however, that at all.
‘Branches of Evil’ is heavy, prog-influenced and vocally a bit like Extreme Noise Terror. ‘Eyes of the Blindma’ is loud, furious and very shouty. ‘Liar Behind Me’ is doomy, but with a bluesy Led Zeppelin guitar solo that saves it, before it regresses into another heavy doom number. ‘Tornado’ is much more interesting, like a dark Goth number but still too metal for me. ‘Night of the Vipers, is loud, full of grunge.
A disappointing record from this doom sludge band.
