Math and Physics Club: Maths and Physics Club

Reviewed By: Dixie Ernill
Label: Matinee
Format: CD

I listened to this CD for the second time whilst getting ready for work the other morning and it made me late because my body kept breaking out into involuntary movements. A hip sway here, a hand clap there and at one point even a full pirouette. Not normal for a grown man of 35, but the light and breezy melodies gave me no choice!

I liked their ‘Weekends Away’ debut single and this is pretty much a continuation of the same. Reminiscent of the very best Sarah record label groups and the whole classic C86 jingle-jangle movement, but updated just a little, like vintage Belle and Sebastian.

The record is still awash with ba-ba-ba’s, violin bits and twee lyrics, but these are good things. These make this record a familiar treat.

‘I Know What I Want’, ‘La La La Lisa’ and ‘Look At Us Now’ are fine highlights, but last track, ‘Last Dance’ is the one that, rather fittingly, made me stop getting ready completely and dance ‘round the room like I was 15. Buy this now and do the same!
