intro
Irreverent Christmas album from country supergroup the Pistol Annies
Nashville supergroup, the Pistol Annies, bring their own irreverent take on country music to their newly released album, 'Hell Of A Holiday'. Songs include topics such as mama's cherry pie, Christmas pageants and pool-hall cowboys handing around the candy canes! On 'Harlan County Coal' the trio – Ashley Monroe, Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley – sing of “making decorations out of shotgun shells” because they are so strapped for cash and the title track finds them drawing straws to see 'who gets the tree out of the attic'! Beneath the rather corny gags, the Pistol Annies say their objective is to update Nashville's storytelling traditions from a feminine perspective. They sing Merle Haggard's outlaw country anthem 'If We Make It Through December' with tender sensitivity and add some seasonal innuendo on 'Come On Christmas Time' with the line "I've got a crush on Santa, I want to ring his bell." The trio say they hope to find a wider audience with this release - and believe 'Hell Of A Holiday' will have appeal well beyond the current Christmas season!
