intro

Laidback Dylan-influenced fifth album from Texas-based nsinger-songwriter, Jim Keaveny

Bob Dylan’s shadow looms large over ‘Out of Time’. Jim Keaveny’s voice is reminiscent of 70s Dylan, with the music not far behind. But if you’re going to sound like anyone, you might as well sound like the best in your chosen field. Dylan (and Dylan’s idol Woody Guthrie) might be a big influence on Jim Keaveny’s sound, but his songs are good, and good fun, so it’s easy to ignore that. The songs on ‘Out of Time’ are of good time variety. It sounds like a group of talented friends playing music for the sheer enjoyment of it. While a lot of the songs (‘Eugene to Yuma’, ‘Ridin’ Boots’, ‘The Girl’), the album does move into other roots/folky territory, from the Hispanic influence of Out of Sight to the barroom rock of the title track. ‘Changing’ is the stand-out song on Out of Time – it could be a great lost Dylan ballad. It’s not original, but it’s good all the same.
