intro
Equal parts intoxicating and unlistenable art punk madness on debut album from the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower
'Love in the Fascist Brothel' is a dose of total art punk madness from the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower. It is equal parts intoxicating and unlistenable. There is an element of the Dead Kennedys and ‘California Uber Alles’ here with tracks like 'Reichstag Rock' and 'Lipstick SS'. Despite the noise level this is actually rather more art than punk and some of the songs have fairly complex structures and instrumentation. 'Love in the Fascist Brothel', however, doesn’t quite work. Some of the tracks come close to brilliant and overall its interesting listening. But the leap from interesting to awesome is never really made. It seems at times as if the band are deliberately forcing you to dislike them. Just at the point on several songs where it all seems to be coming together they lurch off into an almost deliberately antagonistic and particularly aggressive section, and the intoxicating just becomes unlistenable again.
