intro
Our Website of the Month is Music Venue Trust, a charity that helps to protect UK music venues
Over the last decade Britain has a lost massive amount of venues close due to redevelopment, noise and licensing restrictions and the soaring costs of running them. Pennyblackmusic has seen four of the venues it has used for Bands Nights shut – the Spitz in Spitalfields, London and the Half Moon in Herne Hill, London, and The Bay and The River, both in central Glasgow. Music Venue Trust http://musicvenuetrust.com is a UK Registered Charity that exists to preserve, improve and protect UK Grassroots Music Venues for the benefit of venues, communities and upcoming artists. “We work to gain recognition of the essential role these venues fulfil, not only for artist development but also for the cultural and music industries, the economy and local communities,” its organisers explain. “We aim to preserve and improve venues, making them more efficient and improving the experience for performers and audiences. Long-term we plan to acquire the freeholds of as many of these vital venues as possible.” Music Venue Trust has recently announced that Venues Day 2016 will take place on Tuesday 18 October at the Roundhouse in London between 10:30am and 6:00pm, which is a a national networking event for music venues. It will conclude with a night of music and entertainment to raise vital funds for Music Venue Trust’s Emergency Response Programme – to help and protect UK Grassroots Music Venues under threat –again at The Roundhouse. More information about this concert can be found at the Music Trust website.
