intro
Exuberant and versatile latest album from roots-based Canadian singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot
Terra Lightfoot is part of a wonderful Canadian singer-songwriter tradition. She has a fabulous and distinctive voice and she’s a great guitar player. In this album she was encouraged to push beyond the boundaries of her previous work. She can sing the blues and rock’n’roll. She’s got a background in folk and alt-country, and there’s a route from these influences to the best kind of popular music, with catchy songs and radio play that hopefully will lead to greater appreciation and recognition. I saw her on a recent tour in a tiny local venue in Sheffield and she was amazing. Not just a great performer, she writes songs which share personal themes in an extrovert and exuberant way. It’s a winning combination, and the album is a collection of great tracks. 'Never Will' and 'Moonlight' are particular favourites. 'Emerald Eyes' shows her distinctive and powerful voice to great effect. 'NFB' has a folksy feel, harking back to her earlier work. 'Splinter' ends the album on a more melancholy and introspective mood. You’ll be singing along with 'The Truth' on first listen.
