intro
Glorious third album, sung in both French and English, from Bordeaux-based based band Francois and The Atlas Mountains
Domino Records drew such a lucky card signing Fránçois and The Atlas Mountains. Fránçois pleases audiences both sides of the Channel. While French evidently brands his native tongue, his somewhat broken English to many ones's ears sounds like Shakespearean charm and wit. Fránçois effortlessly switches between languages in songs without the bat of an eye. Yet this bilingual album dwells on sounding a tad bit too British, whilst after all French does offer a wealth of lyrics and melodies. Along the way, Fránçois's backing band, The Atlas Mountains, show how to play a rocking tune. The Sahara touch on the cover of 'E Volo Love' does lift the veil, while no matter and how far from funny, the opening chorus lines read: "Soyons les plus, soyons les plus beaux", so if you want to be, and be of, the most beautiful, Fránçois & The Atlas Mountains is where you need to tune your ear in to. Twenty-five years in the finding, but at long last here's France's answer to Chris Isaak. A notable but humble hero of melody, Fránçois manages to merge hints of Arab rhymes and beats with tenderly evoked melody lines. 'E Volo Love' poses a challenge; bluntly building the abridged. Only a Fránçois can come up with a song like 'City Kiss' and only a Fránçois could turn such into a lovely piece of music.
