Maybe the most innovative English folk band since Pentangle's jazz/folk fusion of the early 70s, The Melodic harness a syncretic sound decorated with charango, kora and melodica that makes you wonder what would have happened if Paul Simon was raised an Englishman in Brixton.
The Melodic are a collective of musicians based around principal song writers Rudi Schmidt and Huw Williams, who formally went under the moniker Melodica Melody and Me, well known for their committed gigging and high energy live shows. Determined to do things their own way, the last two years saw the boys hide away in their home built studio in South London recording and fine-tuning their stunning debut album that showcases a baroque line up of 18 instruments. A journey of self-discovery ensued which led to a change in band members and a coming of age that inspired the band to reform under a new name ‘The Melodic’, ready to start a new chapter.

The Melodic have always relied on the steady word of mouth route to filling venues and selling singles, so to kick start their new life, and to showcase their perfected live show and line- up, the band are embarking on a invitation based tour playing to old and new fans in the comfort of their living rooms. Via the band’s Facebook page, requests have been flooding in - with some truly amazing locations confirmed. They are booked to play over 30 dates so far, including radio sessions, charity events, an empty mansion in Belgravia, a laundrette and castle turret in a forest!

On the tour, the band say:
‘“We wanted to do things differently this time”. After playing a couple Sofar Sounds shows we wondered whether more people across the country would like to have us perform for them in their home towns, in places they love - completely free of charge and unamplified. We want to connect with the people who enjoy our music and thought bringing our instruments direct to your door would be the best way to do this.’
The band will be criss crossing the UK through April and May playing one off shows with independent promoters, squeezing into fans houses and busking on river banks and city streets. The following (non living room dates) are confirmed with more to be announced soon!
