Magazine Review Arguably the greatest band to have disrupted the Eurozone during the past year are the sextet, Universal Sex Arena. Maybe we are being tricked here. Out of nowhere comes a band, claiming to be Italian, which is fine and dandy, yet they are of such refinement that their splendid touch made me feel rather conspicious. Italy after all, in hindsight, holds the edge when it comes to composing opera, operette and related matters of melody. 'Women Will Be Girls' disorientatingly enough only three quarters relies on melody. You will find driving 60's pop music influences there as well such as the Allah-La's or the Fleshtones.
Now almost an antiquity, 60's pop music does not seem to age, however, judging by this selection on 'Women Will Be Girls'. Sheerly unpretentious fun surfaces, which is sunnily melodic all the way throughout this fifteen song album. 'Raw Ride' is such a memorable moment that one starts to doubt the origins to this band. Having trashed their way in, Universal Sex Arena combine softly swift and sleazy shimmering qualities, that of a lasting sextet to be. 'The Light Ones' should serve as ample proof of their mature songwriting.
The slight hiss in the vocals and the occasional incomprehension heard in the lyrics give away the light-hearted puns of these 15 songs. 'Women Will Be Girls' is roll on, roll off rock'n roll and smart fun.
