Jester At Work is singer-guitarist Antonio Vitale from Pescara. That's hard to believe though, listening to the opening track 'The Branch'. The soft timbre and the hissing words with the plucking of guitar snares make you think you're travelling on a single fare to indie California. 'Come Back Soon' changes the mood. 'Magellano' then bares the strong ties that come from Celtic music. As iif he is in great insular Irish isolation, Jester At Work too has ripened and matured ballads from simple means. His immaculate guitar playing alone should suffice to fill Dublin and Glasgow pubs.
As a jest of course, 'Magellano' is an Americana album with masterly hidden melodies that distinct its actual Italian origin. Gradually, the vocal performances become more theatrical as do the words, evoking a sense of travelling the seas. The album named after Magelhaen, explorer of the seas. I should point out that Vitale's native harbour town Pescara lies on the Adriatic coast facing East thus away from the great oceans. The track 'Deep Black Sea' marks that direction. 'Magellano' is closed off with the ultimate Americana track and desert guitar twang on 'Alphabet Tree'.
The longing performed on here is of such compassion that the vocals gradually go slightly over the top. The first two-third is, however, perfect veranda listening of atmospheric delight.
