Summer Sun
CD on Matador
Cat No: OLE5482 , Stk Ref 65622

Released on: 07 April 2003

1..Beach Party Tonight 2..Little Eyes 3..Nothing But You And Me 4..Season Of The Shark 5..Today Is The Day 6..Tiny Birds 7..How To Make A Baby Elephant Float 8..Georgia vs Yo LA Tengo 9..Don't Have To Be So Sad 10..Winter A Go Go 11..Moonrock Mambo 12..Let's Be Still 13..Tale Care

‘Summer Sun’ is yet another gem of a record from one of America’s greatest bands which will see them building on an already established reputation reaching the peak of their talent. “A beautiful, fragile record that demands your full attention, then pays back dividends.” MojoWith ‘Summer Sun’ the band are continuing the melodic directions that defined much of their last album. This record is more homogenous in sound, relying on sixties pop tunes, Hawaiian guitars and swooping, textured melodies. The out-and-out experimentation of recent intermediary releases such as ‘Nuclear War’ and ‘The Sounds of The Sounds of Science,’ are virtually abandoned and only appear occasionally in song finales.

Nuclear War
12" on Matador
Cat No: OLE5681 , Stk Ref 62436

Released on: 18 November 2002

This EP is the first new non-instrumental release from Hoboken’s legendary Yo La Tengo since 2000’s ‘And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out’. In the spirit of the times, the band has recorded several versions of Sun Ra’s defiant anthem “Nuclear War”, a favourite at live shows over the past few years. Each version features different guest musicians: •Daniel Carter and Sabir Mateen on sax, Roy Campbell Jr. on trumpet, Susie Ibarra on timpani, and Josh Madell on percussion (16 minutes)•Eleven young children singing along (8 minutes) •The original Yo La Tengo trio •A remix by rapper Mike Ladd. With a running time of nearly 40 minutes and featuring the royalty of NYC’s avant-garde musical circle, this single is a must for any self-respecting Yo La Tengo fan. None of the tracks from this special EP will feature on the new album, due out in April 2003
