intro
Uninspiring and vague instrumental collaboration between Magazine keyboardist Dave Formula and Scottish composer and cellist Christine Hanson
As a member of new wave pioneers Magazine, Dave Formula learnt to write music at an early age. Well over thirty years later his vague soundscapes on this 'new album' are disappointing. Even Howard Devoto's contribution goes by unnoticed. It's like predictable muzak to a mediocre BBC documentary with string arrangement riff raff here and pretentious narrative there. It is the sort of 'art' that would inspire Jennifer Saunders to give it a good slagging. Lounging nothingness and Tesco background deepfreeze mumblings slowly sink down in a muddle of indifference and insignificance whilst I become more cynical with each new moment. 'The Organ of Corti' ruins the memories of all the great songs Magazine released. The title track is not really that bad though. It whirls and waltzes as like a parody of Kurt Weill. On a different record label, with a different title and performed under different names, this can be one the greatest albums the Muppets ever brought out. The record label should have sent this to CBBC rather than to me! Grown-ups with a sense of taste in music won't like this.
